Dromos is a four-man Funeral Doom outfit from London, now presenting their first demo release. Apparently recorded between Brazil (2016) and England (2024)—which is odd, considering Metal Archives states the band was formed in 2019. Funeral Doom is, of course, unbearably slow and heavy, but taking eight years to complete two songs is next-level slowness—so in that sense, it’s perfectly Funeral Doom.
The mixing was done in Brazil, and the mastering took place in the USA, making this tape quite the international endeavor.
“Caveat Emptor”—the first of two tracks. Caveat emptor is a Latin phrase translating to “let the buyer beware,” though that has little relevance here. This nearly 11-minute epic is a slow-burning journey of dark drones, extremely heavy bass, and dragging rhythms. Swirling, feedback-drenched guitars enhance the atmosphere, gradually pulling you in—slowly, of course, because this is Funeral Doom. Absolutely mesmerizing.
“Memorial Moss” is an instrumental piece that feels slightly more traditional than the first track. Built around a hypnotic riff that dominates the song, the drums don’t even make an entrance until much later.
With this debut release, Dromos has definitely caught my attention. Hopefully, we’ll hear more from these Englishmen soon—or at least, as soon as Funeral Doom allows.
