Review: Nattverd – Tidloes Naadeloes LP

There are a few things Norwegians don’t do: casual chatting, indulging in luxury, or relying on others. But there’s one thing they do well—creating raw, filthy, and uncomfortable Black Metal.

Nattverd has been bombarding the world from the historic city of Bergen since 2010 with their raw, hard, and fast noise, and now they’re back with their fifth album, released by the Dutch label Soulseller Records.

For over three-quarters of an hour, you’re forced to your knees and beaten in the face with their sonic club—nine original tracks and a cover of the legendary Dødheimsgard, featuring guest vocalists Hoest (Taake) and Glenn Nilsen (Slagmaur).

It kicks off immediately with the fast and aggressive Iskalde Horn—no retreat, no surrender, just relentless speed and brutality, a true Norwegian punch-in-the-face Black Metal assault.

During the mid-tempo Doedfugl, a sinister little music box makes an appearance, seemingly stolen from a child’s bedroom, adding an even grittier atmosphere. This is a track I wish had gone on longer—what a killer riff section.

Another gem is Raate og Raatt, once again a slower track, but that’s exactly the style I personally love the most. With a furious tone, the story is told, while the icy guitar riffs cut into your flesh and the rhythm section hammers into your skull.

De sviande ord vaagar ikje for sitt liv leaves a similar impact—the band knows exactly how to drag you into a desolate state, making you feel deliciously unsafe. What an album.

This Tidloes Naadeloes is an absolute banger. Yet another one that’s creeping close to the year-end lists, effortlessly transporting you to the icy fjords of Norway while spring weather tries to fool you.
